Good things
There were several students, parents and faculty members out to support both Pershing and the Springfield Cardinals on Thursday night. It was nice seeing so many out representing our Pershing Family.
Mrs. Grindstaff and Ms. Boyster had birthdays this weekend. Please wish them the best if you haven’t already.
Ms. Kathy Null is doing an amazing job in our front office. She has adjusted to necessary changes, always wears a smile, and is very helpful to all she encounters.
I got to see Mrs. Cook’s classes work on their communication skills. They expressed themselves as they were learning the Pershing Mission. I love seeing students step out of their comfort zone and learn. There were songs, raps, hand motions and even puppets.
My Arkansas Razorback won this over 23th Ranked Cincinnati 31-24. We take on South Carolina this week.
****Pig Sooie!!!!
Pershing Athletics starts up this week. I am looking forward to see all of our athletes compete and represent Pershing well. Schedule of games are below.
Galileo Test
Thank you all for your help in administering our new universal screener for all SPS schools. Mrs. Lannholm has sent out emails about make up testing needed this week. Please read those as we work to make sure all of our students tested correctly. I look forward to the data and understanding where each student is on his/her education journey and how we can gauge their progress as the year goes on.
Elementary Team
Tomorrow (Sept 6) the Elementary will have Rise and Shine from 8:30-9:30. Colleen Dorsey, our Math coach, will be here providing mandatory training for our elementary classroom teachers. This will take place in Mrs. Fleetwood’s room.
Instructional Expectation
As discussed there are some building wide expectations that we are going to be looking for after the Labor Day break. Those expectations are as follows
Daily Lesson Plans aligned to Schmoker. Find basic elements of effective teaching below. We will be coming by PLT meetings to discuss how you are going to submit those lesson plans.
Having at least 2 grades per week entered into Home Access Center (HAC) for families.
Having Objectives Posted in a permanent place in the room in student friendly words.
Thursday's meeting with myself and Rachel Bodoin will start this week. This week Hannah Swearengin will be leading teams in discussion and strategies to help support our English Language Development (ELD) students. These strategies given will help to support all students.
Staff Meeting
We will start having our Monthly staff meeting this month. It will be held Tuesday Sept. 20th 7:50-8:50. The location is to be determined. We will use this time to learn professionally together, celebrate, and grow as we seek to live out our mission.
Growth Plans
I will be sending out information this week about our professional growth plans. So, look out for an email from me detailing what this is going to look like.
SPS University/Open House
Pershing will host SPS-U/ OPEN House on September 13, 2022, 5:30-7:30pm. This will be a District Wide event to help promote community involvement and learning more about Pershing and SPS. We will communicate more expectations for tonight this week. List below is the schedule that we will follow.
5:30-6:00PM - Meal for those registered ONLY
6:00-6:30PM - General Session, presented by Mr. Wells
6:30-6:40PM - Break
6:40-7:25PM - Open House
7:25-7:30PM - Principal Closing Remarks
Ms. Douglas has sent out emails requesting help in specific areas. Let's all help make this a wonderful event promoting the greatness of our school and SPS.
I look forward to a great week. Let's find one thing instructionally that you did really well this week and share that with me, the admin team, or a colleague. Because we want to celebrate with you. I’ll be coming by and asking you what was your instructional good thing.
Mr. Wells
