We have successfully completed our first week of school. It was good to see all of the smiling faces as well as seeing how quickly students became acclimated to school routines. Let's make sure we are holding students to the high expectations of the building as we work toward a successful year walking in our Mission:

“Pershing K-8 is a safe community where students learn at high levels to be prepared for a global society.”

SPS University/Open House

Pershing will host SPS-U/ OPEN House on September 13, 2022. This will be a District Wide event to help promote community involvement and learning more about Pershing as SPS. We are pushing out Pershing specific information this week about this particular night.

Wings

Wings is a program done by the district for the gifted. They will meet on Tuesday’s and their name will disappear from your roster on that day. They will be working hard on those days and Ms. Shivers sent an email out Friday containing board policy of what they are and are not responsible for. Also, our District is considering expanding our Gifted Programs.  You will find the slide deck of those expansions HERE

Galileo

Most of you know that SPS will be using a new universal screener called Galileo. Many of us have been trained on different aspects of this screener and how to use the tools it provides affectly. We will be conducting the Beginning of the year (BOY) assessment this week. Middle school teachers will be giving the ELA portion of the assessment on Wednesday, August 31st and the Math portion of the assessment on Thursday, September 1st. The assessment will be given first thing in the morning, with your 5-Star Seminar class.  I have attached a Galileo Assessment Class Schedule for both days of testing HERE.  Each class will be shortened both days to accommodate for testing, but will still meet.  Students will be released from the gyms in the morning, and will report to your classroom by 9:00. More detailed information was sent via email from Megen Lannholm last week.

The District has provided open zoom support sessions available before and after school on 8/29-9/1, linked below.  You can also access these links through the Galileo Canvas Page.

Staff T-Shirts

As some of you know, some of our Pershing staff members were the first to get our New Pershing T-Shirts because they read my Friday morning email and claimed their prize after they were able to recite our school mission. Please come by the lounge, grab your shirt and then cross out your name on our list. And since we do not have our district “Your story, is Our Story” shirt yet we will wear this shirt this Thursday 9/1 together as a staff.

Elementary CDC Representative

The Curriculum Development team is looking for grade level representatives to serve on the Elementary Super CDC. Please let me know if you would like to serve on this team. I would have to know by Monday August 29th.

Pershing School Gear

Our Pershing Store is open for those who like to purchase items. PTSA is spearheading this event. You can access the link HERE.  There are a lot of cool items, so let's purchase some Pershing Swag.

Springfield Cardinal

Pershing night with the Springfield Cardinals will be Thursday, September 1, 2022.
