 Celebrations

The countdown until Spring Break is here. We have 9 days left with students and as we look forward to our time off we must remember to continue to hold up the Pershing standard. Keep pushing our students to learn at high levels as well as making our building expectations a priority. Remind students of your classroom social contracts and building expectations. This is a time that we absolutely sweat the little things, because if we do not then the small things will become big things.

Kindergarten receiving a clue from Mrs. Patton during their scavenger hunt.

Students stopping me because I had to listen to the song they were practicing for Mrs. Grant.

STUCCO and Mrs. Polhman put on a great Valentine’s Dance. Both students and Adults had fun.

District Coaching Update

Instructional coaching for teachers and leaders has been a part of the instructional framework in SPS for some time.  In the current model, we recognize the level of support provided may be inequitable in some sites and divisions within the system.  In order to better align academic work in SPS and establish consistent support for teachers and leaders, we will be modifying coaching supports for the 2023-2024 school year.  This endeavor is a collaboration between the Curriculum, Learning Development and Federal Programs teams and will result in dedicated coaching support at each site from a district instructional coach.  Additional information regarding the district coach who will be supporting your site, as well as specifics of the role will be forthcoming.

Football Co-Op for 23/24

Next school year, Hickory Hills and Pershing will combine football teams.  Not only will this allow the programs to thrive in the Glendale feeder pattern but it will allow us to continue with 7th and 8th grade teams.  Coaches from both schools will remain in place and schedules are set to come out before Spring Break.  New uniforms will be in order as the Falcons Jr. High team debuts in August!  A parent meeting will be held on February 23rd at 5:15 pm in our Cafeteria.

 Celebrations

I look forward to seeing everyone together for an entire week. As we prepare to push our students toward academic success it is important to remember our mission. "Pershing K-8 is a safe community where all students learn at high levels to be prepared for a global society".

We believe that learning at high levels means to learn at grade level or above for ALL. There are 25 school days left before the EOY testing window opens and we still have a lot of work to do as we prepare our students for academic success in our class, on Galileo, and on the MAP. With that in mind we prepare our students by teaching bell to bell, assess our students with CFA's, formatives, and summatives that mirror high stakes questions, and lastly we intervene and extend based on the data of student performance on the formatives.

The Chief's are in the big game as well as the Pershing Generals as we head for the MAP test.

Also, Happy Birthday Mr. Kaiser !!!!!!

National School Counselor Week (Feb. 6th-10th)

Help me celebrate our school counselors Mrs. Lauren Parrish, Ms. Brooke Shivers, and Mr. Elijah Green for the wonderful job they do for our Pershing Family. They are an important piece to our family and this week we celebrate them.

Proposition S Staff meeting

An informational presentation about the upcoming bond issue, Proposition S, will be provided for all Pershing K-8 staff on February 9th @ 8 am-8:30 am in the Library. As SPS employees, it is important that all of us understand these projects and how they will impact students. As such, it is a district expectation that everyone on our team attend this 30-minute meeting.

Feedback Requested from Dr. Holt Regarding EOY Testing Windows:

Last spring, the 2021-22 Assessment Committee provided input that informed the design of this year’s assessment calendar.  One notable difference in the 2022-23 Assessment Calendar is the date of the EOY Galileo (formerly iReady) testing window.  We value teacher feedback and would like to extend an additional opportunity for all teachers to provide input to a potential shift to the current Galileo EOY testing window.  We appreciate you submitting feedback through THIS form no later than Friday, February 10th.
